St. Patrick's Day

ImageSt. Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious celebration. It is celebrated on March 17. St. Patrick was from Ireland, and he died on March 17, which is why it is celebrated on that day. He was taken by Irish prisoners, and then he was oriented as a priest, and he began to minister Christians that were already living in Ireland.  It was officially a Christian feast day on the 17th century.  Since Irish people moved to the United States, the celebration became more known because they decided to still remember some of their roots, from where they are from. The reason why it is celebrated is to remember history which has always been apart of the Irish life. On St. Patrick's Day, the certain color that is worn is green. It used to be blue, but they changed that in the 17th century. One of the reasons why is because the green harp flag, was a very important flag in Ireland, and it was green. To add on, green has been used for several Irish revolutionary groups throughout history. Another reason why you wear green is because Ireland is know to be the "Emerald Isle", for its green landscape. Green has been used on St. Patrick's day for the past 40 years. St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in Great Britain, Canada, The United States, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand. It is also celebrated in many more countries than any other national festival is.
