Optometrist

Duties and responsibilities:
Optometrist examine the eyes and anything else that has to do with the visual system. To add on, they also diagnose and treat patients that have any eye disorder or injury in their eye. It is their responsibility to prescribe their patients with eyeglasses or contact lenses. On a daily basis, they provide therapy for their patient, they perform test and they analyze the results, and they always have to examine the patient’s eye after a eye surgery. In addition, they also promote eye and health in general to their patients.They work with other optometrist in groups, but are most likely to work with one patient at a time. Their work environment is mostly in the doctor’s office. They must have decision making skills, detail oriented skills, Impersonal skills, and speaking skills. As you can see, Optometrist are very important because they are there to help with your eyesight.

Salary: $103,900 per year

Education: You must complete a Doctor of Optometry, bachelor’s degree, obtain a license, and have a 4 year medical program. To add on, it is required to pass a clinical exam, depending on which states require it. In addition, you must complete 3 years of post secondary education.

Demand or need for this profession: Growing 27% from 2014-2024.


Reflection: Do you think you would like to be one? Why? Why not?
I would not like to be a Optometrist, because it is something that I would not enjoy. To add on, I would not see myself doing that because it is something that does not interest me, although it is a good career.
